Hoodia for Fast Weight Loss

A natural weight loss product called Hoodia has enjoyed recent popularity. It contains the vital mix of suppressing your appetite while simultaniously increading your metabolism, which helps you burn more calories while eating less.

It comes from the plant Hoodia gordonii. This plant is also called Kalahari cactus and Xhoba. It grows in the arid Kalahari on the border of South Africa and Nambia. A native people called the Xhomani bushmen or San people have been using the plant on hunting trips for thousands of years to reduce their sense of hunger and thirst.

An organization called the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa began investigating this phenomenon. In 2003, the CSIR reached an agreement with the San people to share in royalties from the sale of drug products derived from Hoodia gordonii.

In 1997, the CSIR approached Phytopharm, a British company which develops drugs from plants, about collaborating on developing the active ingredient. Phytopharm has subsequently sold licenses to Pfizer and Unilever. However, it is currently marketed by other companies as a natural product to curb appetite and aid in weight loss. The chemical isolated from Hoodia gordonii that is believed to cause appetite suppression is P57AS3, or more commonly called just P57. It comes from dried extracts of the plant’s sap. Studies on rats, mice, and dogs have shown that P57 causes weight loss with little side effects.

Research has lead scientists to believe that it increases the naturally occurring chemical ATP (adenosine tri-phosphate) in an area of the brain called the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus has a number of functions, mainly dealing with the regulation of hormones and other body processes. ATP is basically the fuel on which our bodies run. If ATP is low in the hypothalamus, the brain may sense that the body is low on energy and needs to eat.

If ATP can be kept high, the brain may decide that the body has plenty of energy and does not need to eat. This mechanism is just a theory at this point, and more research needs to be done.Phytopharm has done some initial research on humans. It has examined the safety and tolerability of P57. One very small study on 19 overweight men that lasted only 15 days showed that P57 caused a 30% decrease in the amount of calories they ate as well as a weight loss of 1 kg (2.2 lbs).

However, these data have not been peer reviewed in scientific journals.Hoodia does seem to offer some promise to a new and relatively safe diet pill. Any therapy that has few or no side effects and is effective in helping people lose weight is a much welcomed drug. The research is still new, and there is much more that needs to be done to understand the effects of the P57 compound. Even in light of the positive outlook, it must be remembered that drugs and most all supplements seem to have side effects.

Much of the time, it takes several years for side effects to become apparent. Natural products can have potentially devastating consequences. As an example, Ephedra was banned by the FDA because it was linked to heart attacks, strokes, death, etc. One must be careful about taking any supplement because of this. Products marketed as natural supplements are not subject to the same scrutiny of safety and effectiveness as drugs. With this caution, hopefully, researchers will use Hoodia gordonii to develop a safe and effective weight loss medicine.

Herbs That Stop Obesity

Obesity is one of the major health concerns that plague America today. Approximately two-thirds of American adults are considered overweight; while one in three are seriously overweight or obese.  There are  several natural herbs that stop obesity, or at least help to decrease it.

Obesity is defined as having an abnormal amount of body fat; being 20 to 30 percent over the ideal weight for age, sex and height.

Aside from being a major cosmetic concern, obesity is a great risk factor for serious medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney troubles, prostate enlargement, female infertility, uterine fibroids, pregnancy disorders, gallstones, cardiovascular diseases, stroke and cancer. Excessive body weight also puts great stress on joints increasing the chances of arthritis.

How many calories do you burn?

Everyone’s metabolism (the rate at which the body burns calories) is different and is influenced by many factors, including genetics. Regularly eating even a few more calories than your body needs can lead to weight gain. By consuming only 100 extra calories a day, for example, you’ll gain a pound in approximately a month (a pound of body fat equals 3,500 calories). Some experts think a sedentary lifestyle influences weight gain even more than eating too many calories. Exercise burns calories and builds muscle. And the more muscle mass you have, the greater number of calories your body burns at rest.

Aside from aggressive dieting and exercising, some herbal products may aid in raising metabolism or suppressing the appetite. But at the same time, you should also be wary of their side effects. Always check with your health care provider first.

Therma Lean Diet Review

When purchasing any weight loss product, it is important to do your research. Many people are exchanging their opinions about Therma Lean on DietBlogTalk.com

There is so much talk these days about fat burning. Certainly, this is because so many people have fat that they wish they did not have. Yet when it comes to utilizing a worthwhile diet supplement, is fat burning the only thing consumers should be concerned with? This question will be discussed in the following review of the product Therma Lean.

Ingredients at a Glance Therma Lean contains the much-debated ingredient ephedra along with caffeine and white willow bark.Ingredients in FocusWhile many ephedra-based products have been discontinued, it seems that Therma Lean is still on the market. Ephedra is well known as a fat burning agent (or “thermogenic”). Yet ephedra is also a potent stimulant which has also been known for its serious effects on the central nervous system. Like caffeine, the other stimulant in Therma Lean, ephedra should not be consumed by people who are pregnant, lactating or using certain medications.

The recommended “safe” dosage of ephedrine is 10mg. Therma Lean contains 350mg. White willow is known as a natural blood thinner. While this may be beneficial for pain relief it is unclear how this substance can promote weight loss.Positives•    May promote some fat burning

Extremely high levels of ephedrine•    Combines multiple stimulants (including caffeine)•    No appetite-suppressing ingredient•    Free trial not offered•    No 100% money-back satisfaction guarantee.

Final Thoughts dieters’ funds are precious. Nobody wants to waste money on a product that is not really going to provide true weight loss support. Yet what is more precious is people’s well being.

That is why a supplement like Therma Lean really misses the mark. Not only does it fail to provide both of the necessary diet benefits (fat burning and appetite control), but it also puts users’ health in jeopardy with its extremely volatile stimulant content. Dieters ought to look for products which offer more balanced and comprehensive ingredient blends.

Such supplements should prove to be worthwhile additions to a routine of good nutrition, regular exercise, and a healthy amount of water intake. Follow the advice of your doctor.

3 Choices To Help You Lose Weight

Perhaps the most appealing benefit of using a patch is that it is so easy to use. No pills to remember to take, no special diets, no required exercise routine.

1. The Weight Loss Patch
Naturally, sticking to a healthy diet and exercise program is best for your overall health, but if that is difficult for you to adhere to all of the time, the patch may be a solution that works for you.
A weight loss patch that you place on your body will deliver the active ingredients by transdermal delivery, meaning through the skin. The patch ingredients will go directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system and liver. Simply apply the patch to a smooth area of your skin and change it every 3 days. That is all of the maintenance that is required.
A patch can even be used occasionally when you are traveling and know you will be eating out a lot, or for those times you are too busy to cook the proper foods. A patch that suppresses your appetite will help you develop good eating habits that will help you maintain your ideal weight in the future ~ no more yo-yo figures.
2. Appetite Suppressant Pills
Curbing your appetite to stop the influx of calories in the first place seems to be the logical way to lose and maintain your weight. However, we are so bombarded by confusing claims everywhere for appetite suppressant pills ~ in print, on the radio, on television, even on billboards when driving, that it is difficult to know which diet pill will really help take off those pounds ~ and keep them off..
Some diet pills will cause your heart to race, your hands to shake, or an overall “wired” feeling. To avoid these problem, stay away from products that contain Ephedra, Ma Huang, and Ephedrine.
One herbal diet pill that has gotten a lot of publicity lately is Hoodia Gordonii The authentic plant comes from the Kalahari desert in South Aftrica. Respectable television shows like 60 Minutes, the Today Show, BBC, and even Oprah’s “O” magazine have given it rave reviews for its fast acting appetite suppressing qualities. While it can take one to two weeks to work fully, many users report a decline in their appetite with the first pill.
In fact, Hoodia has had so many positive reports that there are now a lot of knock-off products being marketed to the uninformed ~ especially on the Internet. The real Hoodia is very rare because it takes up to 7 years for the Hoodia plant to mature to a point where it provides appetite suppressant qualities. In addition, the African government is now limiting the amount of Hoodia it exports, meaning only a few suppliers have the real thing. Because Hoodia is so rare, you can expect it to be a little more expensive than other diet pills.
Another diet pill that helps shed pounds is Herbal Phentermine. This is a non-prescription appetite suppressant that is scientifically designed to produce similar effects of a popular Rx version of phentermine.
The good news is that the Herbal version contains only natural ingredients so you don’t have to be worried about side effects. Plus, you can avoid the time, expense, and embarrassment of a doctor’s visit.
Herbal Phentermine will not only suppress your appetite, but it will also increase your metabolism so you burn more calories and have more energy.
3). Carbohydrate Blockers
Perhaps you prefer not to have your appetite suppressed, but instead would like to eat all of the pasta, bread, rice, and potatoes you want. If this sounds more like your style, then you might want to try a carbohydrate blocker.
Scientists have discovered, and thoroughly tested a method to allow us to eat the foods we love and not gain weight. We can now stop the normal conversion of starchy foods to sugar before it can pass through our digestive system and store as fat on our hips, thighs, buttocks and stomach. Derived from white kidney beans, the resulting carb blockers, (starch neutralizers), are a completely natural product. They work by neutralizing the Alpha amylase enzyme that digests starch.
By neutralizing this digestive enzyme, the starch from our food does not get digested. Instead, it remains intact and does not convert to sugar. It simply passes through the body undigested and acts as a fiber ~ which is a very good thing. We get more fiber going through our intestines while avoiding the conversion to sugar and the resulting fat storage ~ a definite win-win situation.
Over the past several years, there have been many positive studies to determine the effectiveness of carb blockers and their ability to help lose weight. One study was performed at the Northridge Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, over an eight week time period.
It reported that participants saw an average weight loss of 200% more than those taking a placebo, and lost an average of 1.5 inches around their waists. This was 43 % more than those taking the placebo. Plus they reported having 13% more energy, even though it is not a stimulant.
Whether you choose patches or pills, prefer to eat starchy foods, or use carb blockers, some things to look for when buying diet products are that they:
1) Contain all natural ingredients
2) Do not have harmful side effects
3) Offer a 100% money back guarantee
