Weight Loss And Diet Pills In The News

Health concerns and the desire to look very attractive are some of the major factors that are driving forward and evolving the weight loss & diet industry. I have noticed, there are a number of people that get tempted to use OTC medications and weight loss pills to achieve their desired results fast. People should understand that there really is no magic formula or magic wand for quick weight loss. It’s always been about healthy eating, low-calorie foods and regular physical activity. Those are the ways to lose weight effectively and maintain a good health.

But I can see why people end up following the hype with all the media coverage and ads claiming to help people lose weight fast, to be honest there are ways to help increase the speed of your weight loss however most of those methods are typically unhealthy or potentially dangerous. But still millions of people want to lose the weight they gained over the past 10+ years within in months or even mere weeks, that’s why the quick weight loss and dieting industry is worth billion of dollars per year.

Healthy weight loss and dieting, well according to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) is only about 1-2 pounds per week. And most people don’t really like the idea of working hard for 10-20 weeks to only lose a mere 20 pounds. People desire fast results so they tend to disregard healthy weight loss recommendations so they turn to the weight loss and dieting methods which are supposedly quick and easy to incorporate however just as I mentioned, the reality is that they are really unhealthy.

Keep in mind that even if you take diet supplements it will still be necessary to consume low calorie diet. And also remember that you can’t be taking pills forever for controlling your weight because it’s neither practical nor safe. Take a look at some of the popular weight loss and diet pills presently in the media:

* Clenbuterol * Alli * Xenical * Ephedra * Hoodia

Clenbuterol

This diet pill has been featured in the news recently under its nickname of “Size Zero Pills” or “Size 0 pills”. The Clenbuterol pills earned these nicknames due to the extremely undernourished and starved look of some of the fashion icons in Hollywood who’ve been using them. That’s why it’s not recommended for human consumption, in fact it’s a FDA approved drug for treating horses. It can increase your heart rate and body temperature which help burn fat. It can suppress appetite for up to 9 hours after it’s taken. Overall it’s an extremely unsafe diet pill.

Alli

This is not a medicine, Alli diet pills are fat burners or fat blockers. These are also FDA approved OTC weight reduction product. As we know, weight is gained by consuming a lot of calories, and consuming fat is the major factor of excess calorie intake, The Alli pills are designed to block about 25 % of the fat consumed from being digested, the undigested fat than passes through your body in a natural way. Since the fat is prevented from being by your body. That makes Alli an effective diet pill for weight loss.

When using Alli pills you’re required to limit your meals to 15 gms of fat each, if you fail to meet the requirements you will start to experience extremely unpleasant side effects, such as bowel movements, loose stools, very frequent visits to the “loo”, “farting” with bad oily discharge, etc. Since even a popular burger surpasses Alli’s limit of tolerating fat content, the dieters are faced with a serious limitation that they have to deal with.

Xenical

This diet pill is similar to Alli; their composition is the same so basically their limitations including their usefulness will also be similar.

Ephedra

This diet pill is used in dietary supplements to suppress your appetite. Most of the popular products used for controlling weight were found to be containing Ephedra at one point. However, it has now been totally banned because of its health concerns. But regardless of the ban a lot of Ephedra products are still being sold online. A lot of athletes considered Ephedrine to be a performance enhancing pills. However because of its safety concerns it’s been prohibited in the most competitive sports.

Hoodia Hoodia Gordonii pills are extracted directly from cactus-like succulent plant from South African deserts. It’s currently being sold as natural appetite suppressants. And Hoodia has not been evaluated for safety, effectiveness, or even purity by the FDA and it’s a potentially risky product for weight loss and dieting.

I do a lot of research on weight loss and dieting and so I write a lot about it, read my other Article:

Making Fitness or Martial Arts Part of Your Life

Pick up a newspaper or turn on the local news on any given day and you are liable to hear a report on how Americans are getting fatter. Government statistics tell us that approximately 60 percent of Americans (127 million people) are overweight. Many women who enroll in martial arts or fitness clubs have a primary goal of losing weight. Unfortunately, some expect instant results. If they don’t see immediate weight loss they become discouraged and inpatient. Some even drop out altogether.
In my 20 plus years of training men, women and children of all shapes and sizes, I have learned that diets just don’t work. If they did, we wouldn’t have an obesity epidemic. The diet industry continually makes promises that they can’t deliver and is fleecing the public at the tune of $40 billion dollars a year. The diet industry doesn’t want to tell you the truth. And why should they with the kind of money they’re taking out of people’s misery? The truth is that weight loss is difficult for many people to achieve. Weight loss is a personal struggle, complicated by an individual’s upbringing, eating habits, metabolism, genetics and psychology. Yo-yo dieting and subjecting the body to strange eating regimes is much more detrimental to one’s physical and mental health than maintaining a steady weight.
I’m not here to sell you the same bill of goods as the diet industry. What I will do is encourage you to develop a healthy lifestyle and feel better about yourself. When you train, go with the attitude that you want to move, breathe and stretch. What’s important is that you focus on wellness. According to Steven Blair, director of research at the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research in Dallas, Texas, “There is a misdirected obsession with weight and weight loss. The focus is wrong. It’s fitness that is the key.”
Fitness is also a word that has been presented to the public at large. Go to any gym in America, what do you see? Weights and cardio machines, not much more. The only thing you can do is train strength and endurance; that’s not enough for true fitness! And how about the gyms with Yoga classes? Great, add flexibility to the list, if your lucky. You see Yoga teachers are a dime a dozen in America, especially in fitness gyms. Finding a good teacher is like finding a needle in a haystack, and they’re not at your local “Fitness” Center! Truth is many of the “Yoga” instructors in gyms don’t know a great deal and could actually end up hurting you.
Fitness is far more in-depth then most people are looking at. If your not improving in all areas of human performance: strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination, balance, body unity, grace, speed, hand eye coordination, reactions (and the list goes on) you are not completely improving your fitness.
You will notice that with a good well rounded system of exercise, you will start having more strength, more endurance, and more flexibility, and all the other benefits mentioned above. If you want to lose weight, it will take patience, exercise, sensible diet changes, and sacrifice. There is no way around it. Focus on fitness, moving, breathing, stretching, feeling strong and enjoying your martial arts or fitness routine.

Calasanz is the creator of a system of exercise called Physical Arts. Movements based on his understanding of the martial arts that improve strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination, balance, body unity, weight loss, and tone. Physical Arts exercises are available at http://www.interdojo.com
