If you are like how most of the world is today, when you hear of the words spirituality or spiritual life, you probably associate them with recluse yogis sitting in a cave or celibate monks wearing robes. These days most people consider the word spirit as something that should not be discussed outside in public. Somehow most people think that a spiritual life is one that requires a lot of self sacrifice and allows no fun. This is the furthest from truth! Ironically, as you will find out yourself one day, a true spiritual life not only offers unimaginable freedom, but also takes you to such amazing heights of ecstasy that most people never even dream of.

While there are many faiths that take many roads of understanding, basic spirituality is simple and is based on the following principles:

a. There is an omnipotent intelligence that is the source of this universe.

b. All reality is created from this Divine Intelligence or Energy.

c. There is a reason for all things that happen and a purpose for this universe to exist.

d. Very simply put the reason is evolution. The universe evolves itself from lower states of intelligence and energy to the higher and higher levels until it merges back with the infinite Intelligence that created it.

e. The human race has always felt a painful disconnection from this Source energy or God. Trying to distract themselves from the pain of separation (or more appropriately unawareness), humans have struggled in many different ways. Some of these less than fruitful ways are controlling others, trying to dominate over people, food, alcohol, sex, drugs etc.

f. When this awareness is regained or the link with God is reestablished, amazing bliss and true sense of peace is experienced.

g. When people experience this freedom and bliss, they are driven from within to help others experience this also.

In essence, this is the goal of a spiritual life.

Interestingly, once you awaken, you begin to notice that there are many invisible forces that shape the way your life unfolds! These strange forces begin to make itself known more and more by making many beneficial circumstances happen. These are the miracles that people on a spiritual journey very commonly seem to experience. As you awaken more and more, the miracles and synchronicities keep happening in greater extent. It’s as if God has become part of your everyday life in a very practical way. No wishes go unfulfilled, no prayers go unanswered. All prayers are answered in the most perfect way imaginable. You begin to enjoy a freedom that most people will never even dream about!

When people see the yogi on the mountain what they do not see is here is someone who has given up silly little material gains and received a kingdom full of treasures. Someone who has received a freedom beyond time and space in exchange of our false sense of physical freedom. Someone who has given away measly earthly pleasures for divine bliss and ecstasy! When you look at it this way, you suddenly understand the amazing stupidity of most white collar slaves who are trading their life for a credit card and a house. A spiritual life does not dictate that you cannot have material riches and comfort. You can be a perfect social person and be intensely devoted on your spiritual journey, yet sometimes it makes no sense to keep carrying the unnecessary social burdens along with us.

A true spiritual life allows you to gradually prepare your heavily programmed mind to see beyond the material obvious and perceive the higher truths. Gradually you begin to understand the deeper laws of creation and use them in this physical plane. When you do that, as I said, life becomes miraculous. The whole universe seems to come together to bring your dreams to reality. For now your dreams are one with the dreams of the universe. The dreams of God.
